Pellikoduku & Pellikuthuru

Doctor. Buckeye. India born, Ohio raised. Best of both worlds. Lover of dogs. Loved by dogs. Fit on weekdays, foodie on weekends. The little things are everything.

I belong to a fast-paced world that is constantly evolving. Hence I embrace every magical moment given to me. I get joy out of making people laugh. There is no better pick-me-up than the crack of a smile. I use my left brain at work, and my right brain at home. I live to create.

Fun fact: Ranked 3rd place in an internationally renowned staring contest.
Another fun fact: Participated in staring contest with Anusha; subsequently fell in love.

I was born first and then came the sun sign Pisces. Or is it the other way around? No one can tell.

Crazy intuitive, fiercely honest, spontaneous, and easy to talk to, I like being surrounded by people I love.

Sure, I get really emotional from time to time but that is because I feel SO MANY things. And honestly, I should just change my last name to romance. My life is all about making friends and keeping them. That is why I decided to keep the best of them by my side, for the rest of my life. Abhi is my kryptonite.

The stars sat human-gazing.
"Which one?"
"That one. His eyes. There are galaxies within them."

How It Happened

How We Met

26 Jun 2005

“You gotta pay attention to signs. When life reaches out with a moment like this, it's a sin if you don't reach back.”

Abhi went to India for summer break in 2005. Anusha was living in Hyderabad at the time. Her cousin, who also happened to visit India, brought Abhi to a family event. Anusha and Abhi met, exchanged pleasantries, and never thought they’d see each other again. However, destiny had different plans. Anusha saw Abhi’s profile on a social networking site called Hi5 and instantly sent a friend request. After that, there was no looking back. What started with short messages turned into page long emails. One would think that people who belonged to such entirely different worlds would not have anything in common – yet they made that their strength. They discussed everything under the sky and above. The two became emotionally inseparable.

How We Got Together

25 Jan 2015

“Be with someone who would drive five hours, just to be with you for one”.

January 24th 2015: It was a freezing, snowy evening but that did not deter Abhi from taking a long bus ride from NYC to Durham to profess his feelings for Anusha. It was a spontaneous decision. He left to catch the 1 am bus to North Carolina. Missing it by just minutes, he ended up spending the night at the bus stop. Abhi took the first bus in the morning and showed up at Anusha’s doorstep after a gruesome 12 hour journey. In his hand he held an elaborate love letter written on the back of his greyhound ticket. When he recited it to her, she only had one question for him – “What took you so long?”

Reflecting back on that time, they believe it’s not the 12 hour journey but the 10 year journey that made everything worth it.

The Proposal

13 Nov 2016

“There is only one thing I want to change about you”, he said. “Your last name.”

Abhi started planning the perfect proposal one year before popping the question. He did not want to buy her a ring. He wanted to make one. And so he did just that.

It started with a design on his computer and a hand-picked sapphire from across the world. The concept came alive with the help of a local Cincinnati jeweler.

He told Anusha that they must take a vacation together in November to some place new. Given Abhi’s schedule as a doctor, Anusha fully believed it was just a trip to take time off. Keeping the idea of rustic vineyards and vivid architecture in mind, Abhi picked Napa Valley as the dream proposal destination. He told her beforehand to prepare for a special evening, filled all with the splendor and romance they experienced on their first date. Once there, he took her to a private countryside estate where there was a table set up with roses, champagne, and a mysterious gift, overlooking a beautiful fountain and endless vineyards. Photographers were hiding in the bushes capturing every moment. Upon unraveling the gift, Anusha discovered a handmade book containing all the things significant to them, their friendship and its existence. The last page of the book was a heart touching letter written in Telugu. As she slowly reached the end of the note, struggling to read the words with tears in her eyes, Abhi got down on one knee to ask the single-most lifechanging question yet. No prizes for guessing what she said.

The First Date

7 Aug 2009

“When two hearts are meant for each other, no distance is too far, no time too long and no other love can break them apart.”

Abhi visited India for another summer break in 2009. By this time, Anusha and Abhi were best friends. Even the strongest of winds and the loudest of thunders could not shrink the foundation of their friendship. Anusha spent a day helping Abhi’s mom with shopping in Hyderabad. Abhi decided to show his gratitude by taking her out to a nice dinner, followed by ice cream and a long walk along Necklace Road. They both did not know they were on their “first date”. They would only think of it like that now. The two remained the best of friends for 10 years before moving on to the next phase of their relationship.

The Real First Date

14 Feb 2015

“A single rose can be my garden…a single friend, my world.”

Anusha visited Abhi for his birthday in New York City where he was staying at the time. Incidentally, his birthday was only 2 days after Valentine’s Day, so she planned a special surprise date. The idea was to commemorate their first unofficial dinner date in India. She took him to a candlelit dinner at an upscale restaurant in NYC called “The View” - a revolving rooftop eatery with breathtaking views of Manhattan. To top it all off, she arranged for a cake and a bouquet of fresh red roses. Abhi to this day maintains that it was the most romantic thing anybody has ever done for him. Anusha says she would do it all over again to see him smile the way he did.
